FAQ > Technical Stuff > Why is your email address typed out like that?

You've noticed that in the other FAQ or other places on the website that I type out my email address like this "jerry [at] popgoescatholicism [dot] com" replacing the symbols with the spelled out words in brackets. Why do I do it?

Well, if you've had an email address for any amount of time you've probably noticed that you sometimes received email that you don't want, never asked for, couldn't care less about, or are just plain disgusted by. That's called spam. Spammers (those who send the spam) get email addresses in a variety of ways, but the one relevant here is by using programs called crawlers that search around the internet for email addresses to copy and then use for spam. And since I don't want spam any more than you do, I type out the address in this slightly ridiculous way to avoid getting more of it.

Thus, if you want to email me, just type the email address into your email program the same way you would any other address, just taking the components from my typed out string. Or, you can always use the Contact page and fill in the form.
